I’ve been in England for just over a few weeks now, but honestly it feels like it’s been a lot longer.
I’m living and working at The Elms. It’s a small private primary school situated in Herefordshire. The school costs a fortune to attend, so all the kids there are very wealthy.
Most of them are boarders so I’m getting to know them quite well. They’re all great kids, very friendly and always willing to give you a hand with something if need be.
There is a small farm as part of the school, where I spend a fair bit of time cleaning out stables and feeding one tonne bulls. As well as working on the farm, I help out in the classroom usually reading with the younger kids. I also get involved with school sport most days.
Quite a few people have told me that English boarding schools were notorious for being freezing and for having really bad food. Fortunately the food is great and best of all there’s as much of it as you like. The heating is more than adequate; I’ve even made the mistake of turning it up to high on a cold day and turning my room into a sauna. Thankfully so far it’s been a very warm winter (for English standards). It is supposed to snow at some stage in the next few days though.
I'm yet to see that much of England (I plan to travel a lot during my holidays). I did however go and visit Goodrich Castle today. It was built in the 1400s and is reminiscent to a castle you might see in a movie with its moat, drawbridge, dungeon and towers. It was incredible to see something that was so old and obviously had so much history behind it.
I'm going down to Cornwall in a couple of weeks with a few friends from work. I’ll hopefully be able to go and visit Stonehenge on the way down which is something I’ve always wanted to do.
