Everything about the rock ’n’roll car show at the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park over the weekend was ‘classic’.
There were classic cars, classic rock and a classy mix of petrol heads and groovers who couldn’t get enough of it.
The two-day event was part of the Bega Cheese Concert Series, a collection of musical events run by the Rotary Club of Pambula, with all proceeds going to the Pambula Aquatic Centre Project.
Aussie entertainment legend Normie Rowe’s appearance was the highlight of the two-day event.
Always a hit wherever he performs, Normie’s charismatic flair had the 300 strong young and old crowd literally jumping out of their shoes on Saturday night, February 20. He performed a number of his classic hits and a few of his latest songs.
Normie was backed by well-known local group Stumblin’ Wilbury’s, while Gary Eastwood also kept feet tapping.
The centrepiece of the event was the classic and vintage car exhibition held on Sunday, February 21, that featured well over 100 beautifully maintained and presented cars, ranging from 1911 rattlers to late model Porsches.
There were lots of activities for the kids as well, with rides and slides, a merry go round, a jumping castle, face painting and all the fun of the fair.
Rotary Club of Pambula president Jill Goodchild said the concert was a success with hundreds of people turning up for the event.
“It was a wonderful evening. The wind calmed down and everyone that was there enjoyed themselves,” she said.
“Normie kept the crowd going and he did a lot of his new songs. From the club’s point of view it was another great community PR exercise, and the pool will once again be the benefactor.”
The event was a joint promotion between Bega Cheese, the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park and the Rotary Club of Pambula.
Rotary Club of Pambula publicity officer Rosie Young thanked all who helped with the concert.
“Thanks so much to Bega Cheese, Frankie J Holden, the artists, and all the local businesses and volunteers who supported this community fundraising event for the Sapphire Aquatic Centre Project,” she said.
