First impression a lasting one

Panboola Wetlands entrance beautification works have officially ended with the grand opening held on Wednesday, February 1.

The entrance features a bridge, rock wall, signage, bollards, link to Smith lookout via a bridge and garden.

The only downside to the project was the theft late last year of the magnificent eagle sculpture made by Richard Moffitt.

Guests were welcomed by Pambula Wetlands and Heritage Project Inc president Mandi Stevenson, before Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council representative BJ Cruse acknowledged the traditional owners of the land, the Thaua people of the Yuin Nation.

Member for Eden Monaro Mike Kelly cut the ribbon before guests walked through Tips Billabong to ‘Old Bar’ for refreshments.

Since 2002, 34 successful grants totalling $450,000, from at least 70 submitted, have transformed the 80 hectare site into a majestic sanctuary for waterbirds, flora and fauna, birdwatchers, biodiversity studies and outdoor plays to name just a few.
