During the month of Movember (formerly November) the guys at Sapphire Coast Physiotherapy and Sautelle White Solicitors will be growing, styling and embracing moustaches to raise money and awareness for Men’s health issues.
In an interview with Merimbula News Weekly, James Olsen said, “We are bringing the Mo back because we’re passionate about tackling men’s health issues and being proactive in the fight against men’s depression and prostate cancer”.
According to the Movember Foundation depression affects one in six men however most don’t seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide. beyondblue: the national depression initiative aim is to increase the communities awareness of depression and address the associated stigma of living with depression. The money raised by Movember is dedicated to improving men’s health in rural, remote, regional and metro areas across Australia by supporting men’s health projects.
Every year 2,900 Australian men die from prostate cancer and over 18,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. This number is similar to the number of women affected by breast cancer. The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) aim is to reduce the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners, their families and the community. The money raised by Movember is used by the PCFA to:
1. Fund research into the causes, detection, diagnosis and improved treatment of prostate cancer.
2. Provide information, support and counseling to those affected by prostate cancer.
3. Raise community awareness of the incidence of prostate cancer, thereby encouraging earlier detection and more effective treatment of the disease.
