Hospital rally promises to be huge

Hospital rally promises to be huge

11 Nov, 2009 08:19 AM
There has been an overwhelming response to the Save Pambula Hospital Action Group’s invitation to the public to get involved in a community march, on Sunday, November 15, 2pm, the organisation has said.

Not only have individuals rallied together to form groups to march, but offers of assistance have come from far and wide, promising to make the event a massive statement of people-power.

There is considerable strength of feeling within the extended community about the need to restore vital services to Pambula District Hospital.

The Pambula march will be filmed and the footage used in a television and cinema campaign designed to raise the profile of health services on the Far South Coast.

Four professional film crews will donate their labour and expertise on the day and Andy Campbell from Merimbula Air Services has donated the use of a plane to film aerial shots of the march to be held at the Pambula Recreation Reserve in Nareegol Street, Pambula.

The aim of the march is to show the bureaucrats and politicians that the numbers on their spreadsheets are real people with real jobs and families who rely on their closest hospital.

Props for the day will include a car wreck, a loaded log truck, tractors, a dragon-boat, a trailer/sailor, motorbikes, a surfboat, a powerboat, and a host of tools and sporting equipment to be carried by groups.

Groups committed to the day include: Pambula Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, Eden Sailing Club, skateboarders, Pambula Panthers AFL Club, Surfboat rowers, mothers and babies, Pambula Cricket Club, timber workers, butchers, Pambula Pony Club, pushbike riders, Pambula Merimbula Bulldogs Rugby League Club, surfers, Pambula Preschool, Merimbula Grasshoppers Soccer Club, fishing club, Australian Motorcycle Touring Club, Merimbula Basketball Club, farmers, gymnasts, Merimbula Netball Club, water-skiers, trail bike riders, Pambula and Merimbula Hockey teams, school children and parents, pensioners, Pambula, Merimbula, Eden and Wolumla Softball teams, dragon boat teams, axemen, Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club, tradies, tourists, Pambula Tennis Club, Pambula CWA, nurses and doctors, Pambula Swimming Club, Imlay House, groups from Nethercote, Towamba, Burragate and Mallacoota.

Although the SES and St. John’s Ambulance are not allowed to march, they will be there in force, lending a hand with traffic control and first aid.

Organisers have reminded everyone that the invitation still stands and that if you believe your community deserves a fully functional hospital, join the march at 2pm, Sunday, November 15 and add your voice to the crowd.

Wear work or sports uniform, make up a group and a banner of your own, or join one on the day.

Come bandaged, limping, on crutches, ready for the hospital.

This is a chance to be heard and to make a difference.
