n Police are urging a truck driver who witnessed a high-speed accident on Mt Darragh Road at South Pambula last Thursday morning to contact them with details of the incident.

The truck was overtaken at excessive speed by a 19-year-old male into the path of an oncoming vehicle, which was forced off the road before the two cars collided heavily.

Police said that the truck driver was not at fault but that they would like to have his version of events while the accident is being investigated.

The 19-year-old South Pambula man and the driver of the vehicle forced off the road sustained only minor injuries in the accident, which happened near the old drive-in road corner at about 8am.

n A 49-year-old Merimbula man was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of .16 at Bar Beach at 1.45pm last Thursday.

His licence was suspended and he will face Bega Local Court early next month.

n A 19-year-old Eden man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a fence while driving erratically at Short Point on Friday evening.

He was located a short distance away and charged with negligent driving and will also be liable for the cost of repairs to the fence which he damaged.

n A 22-year-old Quaama man was fined $550 and lost three points off his licence for doing a burn out near the Merimbula Police Station at 5.30pm on Friday.

n A 17-year-old youth was injured in an industrial accident at the Tura Beach Country Club at 7.15pm on Saturday.

The youth received burns to his face and upper body when a bucket of very hot water was spilt in the kitchen.

After receiving first aid treatment at the club he was taken to Pambula Hospital. WorkCover is investigating the accident.

n A 28-year-old Bega man was issued with a $550 infringement for trespassing at the Lakeview Hotel at 10.35pm on Saturday.

After being refused entry to the hotel the man had tried to climb over the building on to the roof, police said.

He will also face an extended ban from the hotel under its firm anti-social behaviour policy.

n A Merimbula man and woman will face several charges after damaging the front door after being asked to leave the Lakeview Hotel because of their unruly behaviour at 11pm last Wednesday.

The 38-year-old woman has been charged with offensive conduct, malicious damage and failure to quit and the 30-year-old man with failure to quit and offensive behaviour.

n A 25-year-old Merimbula man was given a $550 infringement for possession of a knife in a public place after he was stopped and searched at 1pm last Sunday in Market Street.

Police said that he was one of three males stopped after they were seen acting suspiciously in the car park area. The pocket-knife was confiscated.

n Police said they were still concerned about incidents of malicious damage in the Palmer Lane area and asked that anyone with information come forward and contact them.

They said a sign outside McDonald’s Restaurant in Merimbula was smashed between 11pm on Saturday and 5am on Sunday.

n A 28-day noise abatement order was issued against a Telopea Street residence at 7.30pm last Friday.

n Police said they had issued a number of $56 infringements to bicycle riders for not wearing helmets and /or riding on footpaths, and warned that fines could also be issued for not having brakes or a bell. They said that riding on the footpaths could be very dangerous if there were elderly people about.
