The Eden Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is gearing up for the arrival of the first of four cruise ships scheduled to visit Eden in coming months.
The Seven Seas Mariner is due to anchor in the harbour on Friday, November 20 with 760 passengers who will be ferried to Snug Cove to join their tours or have a look around.
Bed and breakfast proprietor Gail Ward has been appointed Cruise Eden co-ordinator after Sapphire Coast Tourism passed the project to the VIC three months ago.
Since her appointment Mrs Ward has been working to ensure the visitors leave with a great impression of Eden and the Bega Valley Shire.
“I’m anxious to get feedback on how to make the wharf exciting,” she said, “if it fails this year, they won’t be back.”
The majority of disembarking passengers will join tours organised independently of Cruise Eden.
They include Davidson Whaling Station and Greencape Lighthouse in Ben Boyd National Park and will extend as far north as Tilba’s wineries.
Mrs Ward is trying to secure funding of $550 per ship ($2200) to hire a shuttle bus to transport passengers to the (Eden) boardwalk and possibly other scenic places.
“Even if five people or businesses give us $100 each we can provide the shuttle.
