The late Graham Bell, of Merimbula, has been awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales.

Station Officer Graham Bell commenced with the Ambulance Service of New South Wales on November 1976.

Mr Bell was employed as a Probationary Ambulance Officer at Dubbo on completion of his Level 2 training in 1977.

During his time at Dubbo, Officer Bell continued his clinical studies and qualified as a Level 3 and then Level 4 Officer with ALS skills.

Officer Bell undertook external studies in 1977 for the Ambulance Superintendent's Course and completed his studies in 1986.

He worked as a control officer in the Dubbo Co-Ordination Centre before being promoted to relief Station Officer Grade 1 Dubbo in October 1980.

He was then transferred to Bombala as a Station Officer Grade 1 in September 1982.

He also provided relief at Jindabyne and Cooma as well as acting as assistant area superintendent in the south east area.

In February 1990 Graham was appointed Station Officer Grade 1 at Merimbula.

"Officer Bell was very well respected by the communities that he worked with," said the award citation.

He was a member of the Bombala Lions Club and taught First Aid for the St John Ambulance Association for a number of years and also represented the Ambulance Service on the Shire RESCC Committee.

Officer Bell was also very involved with the members of the Merimbula Ambulance Auxiliary.

His work within the community of Merimbula was recognised by him being awarded the Citizen of the Year in 2006.

Officer Bell was awarded the National Medal in 1995 and the 1st Clasp to the Medal in 2001.

Also in 2007 Officer Bell was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from the Service on February 9, 2007, due to ill health and sadly passed away in June 2007.

"Today Graham is posthumously awarded with the 2nd Clasp to the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for 30 plus years service," the citation said.
