The District Court has imposed significant penalties on anti timber industry activists who unlawfully entered a local timber mill in January 2011.
A five person team broke into the locked premises of South East Fibre Exports at Eden in the early hours of the morning on January 21,2011 and attempted to disrupt business operations by attaching themselves to mobile plant.
They were detected by SEFE staff and police later removed four of them who remained on the premises and laid charges in respect to their unlawful entry.
Two of the intruders were found guilty this week in the Bega District Court and received a range of penalties including fines of up to $900, 2 year good behaviour bonds and restrictive conditions on approaching the SEFE Eden chipmill. Another person from Western Australia failed to appear to answer charges.
Corporate Affairs manager of South East Fibre Exports, Vince Phillips said that it was pleasing to see the Courts taking seriously the issue of workplaces being invaded by those who think that the law only applies to others.
