Letters to the Editor

10 Mar 10 | The differences between CO2 and H2O in the climate debate Bruce Gaunson’s letter (MNW 24/2/10) raises the intriguing question of why increasing atmospheric CO2 is thought to be driving global warming but water vapour, an equally potent but far more abundant greenhouse gas, does not.
03 Mar 10 | Having lived in this community for 30 years, I am disgusted by the mismanagement and dishonesty I’ve witnessed on the part of your predecessors.
24 Feb 10 | There are fresh fallacies in last week’s letter from Matthew Nott [MNW 17/2/10]. He invokes the scientific organisations which measure global temperature.
17 Feb 10 | On Saturday, February 6 my children and I had the great privilege to be part of a wonderful coming together of generations from the Pambula/Merimbula region who’d gathered to farewell Peter Hellmrich, a dear brother, uncle and friend. Known to many as “Doc”, Peter died in Sydney in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
10 Feb 10 | With recent media reports of irregularities, it is timely to review what is known of the IPCC’s performance.
05 Feb 10 | An area of Australia life which cannot be avoided by the casual observer of all forms of modern media is the growing clamour of the indigenous promotion machine.
27 Jan 10 | Rising sea levels? Let’s be sensible Coastal Australians and their councils face a rising tide - of doomsayers. It’s not just local crusaders (e.g., Matthew Nott in this newspaper 13/1/10) putting out alarming images and statistics. The Rudd government is also doing this. Penny Wong’s department is claiming that in 90 years’ time, our sea levels could be over a metre higher.
20 Jan 10 | It is interesting that S Johns from Port Macquarie has so much local knowledge.
13 Jan 10 | Loved the Cab Sub from CC Halton (your say 6 January) outlining in detail the history of long term planning affecting local government in NSW, including the planning for future public hospital facilities in the region.
06 Jan 10 | Provision of public hospital facilities
31 Dec 09 | It’s only one opinion I refer to Barb Aggenbach’s letter “Why we fight to save our hospital” published in the Merimbula News Weekly, December 9, in particular the last paragraph which has provoked an understandably angry public response, especially in the northern part of the shire.
23 Dec 09 | After reading the Bega Valley Shire Council meeting notice and agenda for Tuesday, December 15 (council meeting), I felt compelled to go along and watch what I believe to be another nail being driven into the coffin of democracy. As a part of this meeting's agenda, councillors were to vote on the Joint Regional Planning Panel.
16 Dec 09 | As a local I read with interest the Merimbula News Weekly along with other local papers, and I find it impossible not to respond to the constant Bega bashing from a few individuals in the Merimbula community. (Barb Aggenbach MNW December, 9 and BDN December 11).
09 Dec 09 | I am grateful to Cathy Benzie for the opportunity her recent letter in the Bega District News, the Merimbula News Weekly and the Eden Magnet has provided.
02 Dec 09 | What masterstroke?
25 Nov 09 | After reading John Tait’s ETS letter (MNW 18/11/09), my mate had one of his visions, in which the following scene was revealed. It takes place in the Prime Minister’s office.
18 Nov 09 | Dismay over lack of support for Country Music Festival About four years ago my wife, myself and two others came down for the first time to Merimbula for the Country Music Festival.
11 Nov 09 | Open letter to Minister for Health Nicola Roxon Cataract funding cut, yes, our eyes are precious On the government website, Department of Health and Ageing, I find your concern for the eyesight of the elderly nothing short of hypocritical in view of the recent cut to the cataract operation funding, yes, our eyes are precious as you so aptly pointed out.
04 Nov 09 | When the boat comes in I arrived in Australia by boat in 1960 at a cost of 10 pounds. I was a pommie migrant. We lived in migrant hostels, not much different from today’s detention centres.  | CommentsComments (1)
28 Oct 09 | As a former resident and still landowner in the area I would like to support Hugh Wheeler’s comments on the airport extension as the only way forward for the entire shire.

10 Mar 10 | Michael Clarke needs to choose between a fraught personal life and his career in cricket. All the evidence indicates that the current position is untenable. As Mark Anthony could testify, obsession can be a man's undoing. If Clarke is unwilling to make the call, then cricket will make it for him.
