The promise of some big seas was too much for our local surfers to miss. Murray Ferguson, of Lochiel, was there too catching some of the action on his camera. Taken on Sunday morning, January 27, at Pambula River Mouth, it was the start of a big surf week.
There were plenty of spectators at the river mouth viewing platform and some who tried to paddle out couldn’t get out because there was so much movement in the water, Murray said.
But that wasn’t a problem for Henry Jones, of Greigs Flat. Henry, the former Pambula teacher was still giving lessons on courage and style in the big surf as well as entertaining spectators who voted him number one gun for the day.
There was also a trip down surfing memory lane with Rob Hindle, of Pambula Beach riding a 1970s vintage single fin in style. There would have been a few older surfers reminiscing about the days before the sandbar changed the surf at Pambula Beach in the late 60s and early 70s.
