Students from Lumen Christi Catholic College are in the last weeks of rehearsal for their upcoming musical, ‘Knock on Wood’.
Over 80 secondary students and all primary students are involved in what promises to be an exciting and unforgettable theatre experience.
Written by drama teacher, Emma Hibbert,’Knock on Wood’ is the journey of a group of teenagers who are magically transported around the world to gain a new appreciation of all they have to be grateful for.
Mrs Hibbert says writing the play specifically for the Lumen students allowed her to create multiple parts and address issues highly relevant to young people in 2013.
“The first part of the play is a humorous look at teenagers with a range of ‘first world problems’. We touch on social media, bullying and consumerism, all in a humorous context. The second part of the play is more serious and confronting as the teenagers are forced to compare themselves with others around the world in less fortunate positions.”
The play is set to a soundtrack of live music, including an original glow in the dark percussion number written by music teacher, Joe Fragnito.
There’s also a lantern parade by the primary students, a professionally choreographed hip hop dance by a selection of male students and pre show festival style entertainment prior to the performance.
Performances of ‘Knock on Wood’ will be held at the Lumen Christi Catholic College Hall on the 22nd and 23rd August at 6.30pm.
