A day out at Nowra provided some training for the Zen Dragon Boat team and also a chance to race against the best from the ACT.
Zen combined with Port Hacking for the racing at the recent Nowra community and sports regatta.
All races were open mixed sports races although the Zen and Port Hacking combined team only had one man.
After a couple of difficult heats, the team broke through in the final heat and did so well that they grabbed a place in the final competing against Komodo and Ice Dragons from the ACT, Moruya, and Sapphire Water Dragon who had teamed up with Narooma for the racing.
The Zen/Port Hacking team got off to a great start and kept the boat up for the distance breathing fire down the necks of Komodo and Ice Dragons to finish in third place with a race time of 1.02 minutes.
Zen president, Heather Compton said that it was particularly pleasing as both Ice Dragons and Komodo had more men in their teams and a few less years behind them.
“It was a great start to the racing season,” Heather said.
