Four young locals were involved in a serious accident on the Nethercote Falls Link road on Friday, December 7 at 8.45pm.
NSW Police’s Senior Constable Tom McAlpine said the four aged between 15 and 18, from Merimbula, Tathra and Bega, were lucky to have escaped death, when the car they were travelling in lost control on a bend in the unsealed road and hit a tree.
The three passengers, an 18-year-old woman from Tathra, a 17-year-old male from Bega and a 15-year-old female from Merimbula, were taken to Bega hospital, with the Merimbula girl being airlifted to Westmead hospital in Sydney, where she will undergo surgery for a fractured vertebra.
The 15-year-old female driver from Merimbula, who was uninjured, was given a road-side breath test which returned positive. She was arrested at the scene and conveyed to Merimbula police station where a further blood analysis test confirmed the result. She will face Bega children’s court at a later date.
Police investigations into the accident are continuing.
