Woman airlifted from base of Merimbula cliff

The Westpac Life Saver helicopter has winched a paramedic down to a woman at the base of a cliff near Merimbula.

The helicopter was called in shortly after 5pm Tuesday for its fourth job of the day.

The 26-year-old Wodonga woman had been snorkeling and tried to climb the cliff after leaving the water. She reportedly stumbled and broke her ankle as well as suffering cuts and bruises.

About 6pm a rescue crewman was winched down to the woman. She was taken to Merimbula Airport to meet with the Air Ambulance.
