While sipping coffee and drinking in the views from the Merimbula Wharf restaurant on Sunday afternoon, customers enjoyed  the thrilling spectacle of two southern right whales in the water nearby. The mother and calf,  cruised around Main Beach  before checking out  the wharf area.

Restaurateur Anthony Daly  said the whales were in no hurry to leave.  They spent about an hour and a half  lolling about in the water. “Their presence captivated everyone in the restaurant, needless to say there wasn't  much work done,” Anthony said.
