Merimbula couple deaths not suspicious at this stage

Police are confident that the deaths of an elderly Merimbula couple are not suspicious , however their investigations will continue to ensure that is the case. They  also doubt that it was an act of suicide.

Meanwhile a report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner after the bodies of the  couple were found in their Merimbula home yesterday.

Police were  called to the Valley High apartments, Sapphire Coast Drive  at about midday yesterday responding to concerns for the welfare of the couple who had not been seen for some days.

Police entered the home and found the bodies of an 89-year-old woman and a 90-year-old man inside.

The body of the couple's dog was also found.

A police spokesperson told the News Weekly this morning  that the couple had not been seen around since the start of the month. There was no evidence of a gas leak. Police believe that death was from natural causes due to their age or perhaps one was caring for the other and that had brought about their demise.

The dog had died from dehydration.

“It would appear they just passed away,” the police spokesperson said.
