It was a big night for the Sapphire Speedway with the club’s AGM held at the Candelo Hotel recently.

A large number of members turned out in force, as did some new members and veterans of the club.

There are a number of changes to the committee this year, first and foremost Greg Eastman stepped out of the president’s role, with Daryl Moon taking on the job.

Members thanked the outgoing committee of Eastman, Gary Targett, Allan Atkinson and Pauline Bolton.

The new committee is Moon as president, vice-president Lyn Slater , treasurer Steve Robinson and secretary Pauline Bolton.

A new sub committee was also elected with the club now aiming to go from strength to strength.

Moon accepted his new role and began the proceedings with a general meeting for members to put forward their suggestions for the development of the track and club.

The club will hold a planning bee at the track with a scrutineering day on September 6.

“We will get together, have a barbecue and do some planning get some organisation,” Moon said.

From 9am to 2pm the club will be scrutineering any new cars for the upcoming race season, while the planning bee will start at 10am.

Committee and members will check out the track, canteen and coordinate ideas and put plans in place to maintain the quality of the grounds.

A general meeting and barbecue will run from 3pm.

A spokesperson for the club said drivers had been preparing their cars over the winter break and the club is looking forward to quality racing at the track.

“We will have some very strong leadership this year and the committee is packed with knowledgeable people who have raced at Sapphire for a long time,” the spokesperson said.

“Sapphire Speedway is the place to be, be there if you dare!”
